True Grit

Just watched it the other day.
Well... if you like westerns.. you may want to see this movie. Otherwise.. I'm not very sure.
There's been a lot of marketing done around it to get you to the cinema. There's also a bunch of good actors in it, but overall it remains a western movie like all the others of it's genre.
I would watch this movie because it's nominated for 10 Oscars and already won 1 BAFTA prize...
The storyline goes something like this:
"Following the murder of her father by hired hand Tom Chaney, 14-year-old farm girl Mattie Ross sets out to capture the killer. To aid her, she hires the toughest U.S. marshal she can find, a man with "true grit," Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn. Mattie insists on accompanying Cogburn, whose drinking, sloth, and generally reprobate character do not augment her faith in him. Against his wishes, she joins him in his trek into the Indian Nations in search of Chaney. They are joined by Texas Ranger LaBoeuf, who wants Chaney for his own purposes. The unlikely trio find danger and surprises on the journey, and each has his or her "grit" tested. (written by Jim Beaver).
And here's the trailer:

The movie won 1 BAFTA prize (for Best Cinematography) and Hailee Steinfeld, who played the role of Mattie Ross, won 8 prizes by now for best supporting actress. It's also nominated for 10 Oscars.

Eat Pray Love

Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and IndonesiaAs the title says... it is a movie about eating (food), praying (self-discovery) and love (knowing oneself by knowing someone else). Throughout the entire movie I laughed, cried, craved food, laughed again and cried once more. If u are in a lonely place... I definitely recommend this movie. If u are just looking for a bright, yet funny and romantic movie , this is the one :). But.... I do recommend 1 thing before seeing the movie... have a great big meal .. or else you will find youreself craving food... because... trust me... there's some great food in this movie :) And another thing... if u liked the movie please read the book... Personally, I liked the movie ... for the landscaping, for Javier Bardem and julia roberts... but i simply LOVED the book :)
Emjoy and bon appetit!

Revolutionary Road

"Tell me how, by any stretch of imagination, you can call yourself a man?!"- this is what April tells Frank on the first few minutes of the movie REVOLUTIONARY ROAD.
We are watching... enjoying if I may say... the troubled life of a couple... a couple like any other couple, some may say from the 1950's, a story about truth, marriage, infidelity and much much more.
He wants more from life, so does she... they understand each other... but what makes them different after all, when did it all stop being romantic, fun and it got to being so...serious?
I have seen this movie 4 times and I still can't get enough. It is deffinitely among my top 10... Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio have immense chemistry on screen.

After seeing this movie for the first time... I decided to read the book REVOLUTIONARY ROAD by Richard Yates. It blew me away. The book sheds some light on why the characters act the way they do in the movie... so it is much more complete...and therefore you can understand them better and empathyse.
All I can advise you is to watch this movie and have an open heart and mind while watching it.
ENJOY!

Burma VJ: Reporting from a closed country

Fact: You can't get into Burma with a video camera because cameras are forbidden in Burma. Even if you go there as a tourist.

Now on the topic.
This documentary is so moving and truly unique.

The events presented here made headlines for a few days in 2007. Burma remains today one of the most isolated countries in the world. Its military dictatorship remains one of the most repressive in the world.

This film is a wake-up call for the world not to forget the on-going tragedy in Burma. You'll witness the crimes against humanity committed there by the military junta and you'll thank God you live in a democratic country where journalism is not considered a crime.

This film is a testimony about the Burmese struggle for freedom and an unforgettable film about human courage.

500 days of summer

A nice, Sunday-night movie to watch with friends over a nice glass of wine.

I particularly enjoyed it as it is not the average romantic Hollywood movie.
It is a movie about chance, choices and coincidences...

On a scale of 1-10 i would rate it as a 7.5.

Seven Pounds - definitely a must-see movie

The only minus (if you want) of this movie is that you guess it's end a couple of minutes earlier BUT I can assure you that you'll want to watch it till the last second. Because it's not always about how well can the director hide the end from you, but it's about the essence of the story that is shown to you.

When I watched this movie I was so impressed that even today I recommend it to any person that asks me about a good movie to watch. It's one of my favorite movies.

One of the best films of 2008, Seven Pounds it's an amazingly moving drama, a movie that makes you look at life from a different point of view. A movie that will make you more aware of your own life and the lives of those so dear to you. I'm not going into details about the action of the movie since there are hundreds of reviews out there that give you that information.

I've never been a fan of Will Smith but I must say that in Seven Pounds he's way far beyond what he has shown us before.

This movie will touch your heart in ways you never thought it's possible. So, if you haven't seen it yet, better late than never.

DAM 999 - a 3D emotional thriller of mystic dimensions

Now in post-production phase and planned to be released on the 1st of December 2010 in the USA (source: IMDB), DAM 999 will be the first Hollywood movie project directed by Sohan Roy.

DAM 999 is a tribute to the 1975 Banqiao Dam disaster in China that claimed around 200,000 innoncent lives and an eye opener to such man-made calamities.

The story revolves around a 100-year-old British Colonial DAM in India through 9 characters. The life of these nine characters, the emotions undergone and the final outbreak of their emotions are symbolized to the collapse of the dam. This close relation of these nine characters and the similar ending of these characters and the dam is the soul of the story. The nine characters experience nine different types of emotions and are portrayed as having with different hues, shades and colors in life.

DAM 999 is a portrait of Navarasas, ie, the nine basic forms of human emotions, which symbolically depicts to be a dam of emotions in the movie. The nine very forms of emotions reproduced are Adbhuta (wonder), Shanta (serenity & peace), Bhibatsya (disgust), Hasya (joy), Rowdra (anger), Veera (courage), Shringara (love & beauty), Bhaya (fear)and Karuna (grief). It takes you to feel the power of Ayurveda, Astrology and Vedic Mathematics.

Shot in the largest film production complex in the world (Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad), DAM 999 is expected to be a 3D emotional thriller of mystic dimensions.

The Last Exorcism - an objective opinion

Talking about more recent movies, I just watched The Last Exorcism the other day.

You know, when you hear about exorcism movies you expect a lot of scary stuff and you maybe want to see something that scares the s... out of you, right? and makes you unwilling to go to bed alone afterwards.

Well this is not the case with The Last Exorcism. Why? Well.. let me put it this way - What you see in the trailer bellow, that is all the interesting and scary stuff. That is absolutely all the scary stuff and all the stuff that makes you feel like you're watching an horror movie. I mean literally.
The rest of the movie is but introductory and explanatory stuff... documentary-style.

The only thing almost interesting (but not so cool after all) about this movie is how it was shoot and edited and I mean the documentary-style and the camera shakes and shots that reminds us about The Blair Witch Project.

Lilja 4-Ever - in case you missed it

Yeah, it's a film from 2002.... You'll probably think what's wrong with me...Anyway...

How many of us associate words such as "innocence" and "purity" to "prostitution"?

Lilja 4-Ever is probably the best movie directed by Moodysson. Don't know if you watched it or not, but if you appreciated Requiem for a Dream then you'll want to see Lilja 4-Ever too.

It's more than just a sad family story and it's way much more than a movie about human traffic.

A film that shocks, moves and impresses at the same time.

The power of social media

A survey conducted by Princeton University for the Pew Research Center shows that adult use of social media in the US is exploding—from 8% of adults in 2005 to 35% in 2009. That means more than 1 in 3 adults are accessing these sites!
Adults, not teens, make up the majority of social media users. Facebook's 35-54 year old demographic, for example, has grown dramatically; in 2009, overall use of social media by people between the ages of 35 and 54 surged by 60% (Forrester Research).
Many analysts believe we've reached a “tipping point” of older users, so that this trend will continue.
A study by the National Consumers League in 2009 showed that 82% of Americans who want information on companies trust discussion on social media sites more than they trust companies' corporate sites.
