The power of social media

A survey conducted by Princeton University for the Pew Research Center shows that adult use of social media in the US is exploding—from 8% of adults in 2005 to 35% in 2009. That means more than 1 in 3 adults are accessing these sites!
Adults, not teens, make up the majority of social media users. Facebook's 35-54 year old demographic, for example, has grown dramatically; in 2009, overall use of social media by people between the ages of 35 and 54 surged by 60% (Forrester Research).
Many analysts believe we've reached a “tipping point” of older users, so that this trend will continue.
A study by the National Consumers League in 2009 showed that 82% of Americans who want information on companies trust discussion on social media sites more than they trust companies' corporate sites.
